Why does Spamhaus HBL blacklist an email address?

Spamhaus HBL may blacklist an email address if it is reported for sending unsolicited promotional or bulk emails. Spamhaus maintains global blocklists to protect users from spam, aggressive marketing, and suspicious email activity. Once a recipient files a complaint and the address is added to the Spamhaus HBL, messages from that sender are likely to be rejected or blocked by mail servers that rely on Spamhaus filtering.

Sample of the bounce message is as follows.

How to fix this issue?
If your email address or domain is blacklisted by Spamhaus HBL, follow these simple steps:
1. Check your email address or domain on the Spamhaus Blocklist Checker
2. If listed, submit a delisting request form and explain that you will avoid sending unsolicited emails in the future.
3. Once approved, your email will be removed from the blacklist. You may also contact us, and we will request delisting from Spamhaus HBL on your behalf as a complimentary support service.

It’s important to understand that this error is not caused by our hosting, SMTP service, VPS, or your domain’s IP address. Instead, it results from repeated complaints by recipients about unsolicited marketing emails. To reduce the risk of blacklisting, send promotional emails only to verified opt-in recipients, include a clear unsubscribe option in every message, and avoid aggressive or repetitive campaigns to the same domains or users.
